Best Coffee in Singapore

I’m a big coffee person so when I first came to Singapore, one of the first things I did was to find great cafes and roasters here.

Not surprisingly theres a lot of very good coffee here, and if youre looking for a quick and cheap coffee, nothing beats the local kopi. My favorite version is kopi o kosong (coffee without milk or sugar). It’s just a strong, small, black coffee thats usually a dark roast filter brew with a mix of robusta and arabica beans. You can find it at any hawker center, coffeeshop or food court and it’ll run you about 1-2 dollars.

For third wave coffee, there are a lot of good options here. Some ranging from very expensive to fairly afforable. To follow along the scope of this blog, I will highlight some high quality but affordable coffee options here.

  1. Nylon Coffee (cafe: $, beans: $$)
    • Nylon is a well known and well established cafe and roaster located in Evenston Park near Tanjong Pagar. They also provide beans to other cafes in Singapore. Their coffess at their cafes are affordable ($3-5) and always very very good. As with other roasters in this list, they have a monthly subscription for their beans.
    • In terms of price, their beans are not the cheapest but you can always be sure that you will be getting high quality, well roasted beans.
  2. Bright Coffee Company (beans: $)
    • Bright Coffee Company is run by an Aussie living in Singapore. They are famous for having good quality beans at affordable prices. For 250g, the prices range from $10 - $14, which is one of the most affordable options for high quality beans. They also have decaf available which is uncommon here for third wave roasters.
    • You order from their website and you get free shipping over $50.
  3. Lam Yeo Coffee Roasters (beans: $)
    • This is a traditional singaporean style coffee roaster that also serves third wave coffee. You can buy your tradition kopi powder along with your third wave ethiopian yirgacheffe. The location is a bit out of the way but you make it up with the prices.
    • The prices range from $8 - $16 depending on the beans. Feel free to ask the uncle working at the shop what he recommends in your budget.

Outside of these three, there are many, many other options.

There is a google map created of recommended cafes by a user in Coffee Snobs Singapore, which I think is the biggest facebook group for coffee lovers in Singapore.

I’ve tried many cafes from the google map above and I’ve been impressed with many of them. Go out and give it a try!
